Subsidies for large-scale solar thermal installations in Austria have been significantly increased

Since 2010, the Climate and Energy Fund (Klimafonds) has been supporting the construction of large-scale solar thermal systems.

Since 2010, the Climate and Energy Fund (Klimafonds) has been supporting the construction of large-scale solar thermal systems for integration of solar heating and cooling technology in industrial or commercial buildings or for supply of district heating networks with renewable heat.

In the meantime, more than 127,000m² of large-scale solar thermal installations have been funded by Klimafonds. Also SOLID has implemented numerous large scale solar thermal projects in Austria with support of the Klimafonds. One of our references in Austria, the recently commissioned solar district heating installation in Mürzzuschlag was funded by Klimafonds:

The 12th call for proposals started on 27.4.2021 and will run for the first time for nearly 2 years until 24.02.2023 with several deadlines for submissions. The first submission deadline in the current call is 15.10.2021.

Within the framework of the call, a total of 45 million Euros will be made available for the expansion of this climate-friendly technology in Austria.

Up to now, the subsidized plants were limited in size. Now, the goal is also to decarbonize district heating, so plants of any size are now eligible for funding.
In addition, project preparation studies are increasingly supported by commissioning the Climate and Energy Fund (Klimafonds). This provides investors with a qualified examination of project possibilities and an initial preparation of a basis for decision-making.

Special focus of the call

Following topics are covered by the funding programme:

  • Solar process heat
  • Solar thermal supply to district heating networks
  • High solar coverage rates (>20% of total heat demand) in commercial and service enterprises
  • Solar thermal in combination with heat pumps
  • New technologies and innovative approaches
  • Large-scale solar plants from 5,000m² upwards

SOLID will be glad to consult and support you in the submission of your large-scale solar thermal project.
