task 55 kick offBetween the 19th and the 21st of October 2016, around 25 international experts participated in the SHC Task 55 Kick-Off meeting. The experts discussed the major contributions of the Task on the world market´s integration of large scale solar thermal systems into district heating and cooling networks.

SOLID represents the 2nd company which provides an operating agent to organize, lead, and guide a SHC Task in the entire IEA history. The Kick-Off event took place from the 19th until the 21st of October in Graz, Austria, and was the starting point for the four-year international research project. Experts from 18 institutions and countries such as Germany, China, Denmark, Canada, Finland, or Spain analyzed the current situation and future potential of solar thermal district heating and cooling systems on the world market, as well as technical and economical options to be elaborated on. The event provided several sessions across three days where the project focus was defined and a strong international network was set up. On the 3rd day, participants had the chance to go on a technical tour to the solar thermal large scale plant at Fernheizwerk Graz (7,750m² collector area). The meeting finalized with an intensive workshop held by Fraunhofer ISE on the assessment of different collector types for large scale installations.

The next SHC Task 55 Meeting will be from the 14th- 16th of March 2017 in Denmark.
