SOLID won a world-known ENERGY GLOBE Award - Again!
SOLID won the Jamaican Energy Globe Award 2014. After an Energy Globe Award 2005 and 2006, the award now, 2014, underlines SOLID´s strong, constant international performance. With the construction of the first solar thermal cooling system at the headquarters of the mobile operator Digicel in the capital of Jamaica, SOLID has implemented the first highly innovative, economic and environmental solar thermal project in a developing Caribbean country.
With more than 160 participating countries and over 1,000 project submissions annually the Energy Globe Award is today's most prestigious environmental prize worldwide.
SOLID won the national ENERGY GLOBE Award Jamaica 2014 for an innovative solar thermal cooling plant at mobile operator Digicel´s Jamaica office headquarter.
The Caribbean region is a hot spot for solar thermal technology in general as conventional energy prices as well as solar radiation are very high. Goals of the project were: ensuring an environmentally friendly, economical and demand-oriented operation of a solar thermal plant and training of local partners to increase know-how in the field of solar thermal energy. The components supplied are operating according to the system ´Plug & Play´ to keep transaction costs as low as possible on the spot.
The project is an ecological showcase project in Jamaica, with a total of 981.5 m² of flat plate collectors.
The project is unique as it is the first solar cooling plant in the Caribbean. Via a tele-monitoring system, SOLID still maintains and optimizes the plant which has a 9 years payback period. In 30 years, the customer will safe more than US$ 13 million.
According to the ENERGY GLOBE Award Jury, SOLID “has successfully harnessed the power from the sun for solar cooling in a showcase that has the potential to inspire many others internationally.”
